Nicky Clay - Lead Physiotherapist

Grad Dip Phys, Grad Dip Injection Therapy, MCSP, AACP, ACPOM.

 

Nicky qualified as a Physiotherapist in 1992 and has worked as a Clinical Specialist in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy for 15 years, most recently specialising in spinal pain.

 

Nicky has extensive post graduate qualifications having attended Muscle Imbalance, Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine, Acupuncture and McKenzie courses. She also has a Graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Peripheral Injections, which she has been practicing for 15 years.

 

Nicky believes that a thorough understanding of a patients condition, is acheived by actively listening and involving the patient to develop a treatment plan. Ths is vital in resolving and managing conditions. Understanding of the condition is paramount in long term strategies to prevent recurrence.

 

Nicky has worked alongside Spinal and Orthopaedic  Consultants for many years, and is able to interpret and explain MRI images to enable more effective management of all spinal pain.

 

Nicky has three children and spends her spare time being a taxi and now and again manages some running! 

 

 

 

Simon Miller -Lead Physiotherapist

Bsc Hons Physio, BSc Hons Sports and Exercise, MCSP, MAPPI

 

Simon completed his first honours degree in Sports & Exercise Science before attaining his second honours degree in Physiotherapy at York St John University in 2006. Simon specialises in working with athletic performance and movement patterning. He is also experienced in working with individuals with a complex presentations, postural alignment issues and those with chronic musculoskeletal dysfunctions preventing normal daily function and affecting athletic performance. Simon has worked with a number of elite Junior athletes and the Internally renowned Northern Ballet.

 

Simon believes that injury prevention and a full and functional rehabilitation is the key to improving performance and successfully treating injuries in the long term, preventing future problems. The key to attaining the best recovery is a thorough assessment including muscle balance testing, biomechanical and movement assessment, as well as soft tissue testing. This will enable a good treatment and rehabilitation plan to be put together.

 

Simon is a lead presenter for the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (www.ausphysio.com), presenting courses both nationally and internationally to a range of health care professionals.

 

In his spare time Simon enjoys running/cycling as well as adventures round Otley Chevin with his family.

 

 

Helen Evans BSc (Hons) MCSP

Chartered and State registered Physiotherapist

 

Helen is an experienced physiotherapist having qualified at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2004.  Since then she has spent time gaining experience within NHS and private practice in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.  She started her career working at the Yorkshire Clinic before moving to Leeds Teaching hospitals NHS Trust.  She has since worked in a variety of private clinics and is now working full time for Leeds Community Healthcare NHS trust.  She is using this extensive clinical experience on a part time basis at the Chevin Physio.

 

Helen specialises in musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction with an emphasis on restoring full health and function, through a hands on therapeutic approach.  She has developed an expertise in manual therapy, using both joint mobilisation and myofascial release techniques. alongside other treatments to aid recovery and rehabilitate and prevent further injury. She is close to completing a postgraduate diploma in Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and is currently undertaking acupuncture training.

 

 

 

 

 

Joy Kelly- Massage Therapist and Reflexologist

ITEC, VTCT (IHHT)

 

Joy qualified as a Massage Therapist and Reflexologist at Leeds City College / Harrogate College respectively, and has been a practitioner in the West Yorkshire area for several years.  She is a member of the Complementary Therapists Association. In addition to working out of the clinic at Chevin Physio, she works as a mobile therapist, visiting those people who find it difficult to come out from their homes. 

 

 

She is Massage Therapist at the Leeds support group meetings for sufferers of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), which is a similar condition to that of the more commonly known Motor Neurone disease - she provides neck and shoulder massage for those who have the disease and for their families and carers.  

 

Joy provides well-being sessions for the staff at Children’s Services in the Education Department at Bradford Metropolitan District Council and gives shoulder/Indian head massages each year for Children in Need and Comic Relief.  She has supported events for Bliss and Manorlands Hospice. 

 

Last year Joy studied for a Diploma in Teaching Baby massage and hopes to provide classes in baby massage for parents this year, in addition to offering one-to-one tuition to parents. 

 

Joy believes very much in the holistic approach to well-being and in this respect prefers to offer a tailored treatment to clients.  Someone coming in to the clinic can choose to have a back and shoulder massage and mix this with a head/face massage, some reflexology or a simple foot massage – whatever is needed by the client on the day.   

 

Joy enjoys singing and cycling, however she has three young and very energetic grandchildren who mostly keep her from these hobbies!
