What is Pilates?
Developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), the Pilates method is a mind-body conditioning programme initially designed for rehabilitation purposes during the early twentieth century. Pilates was later adopted by dancers as its philosophy blended well with their focus on core strength, co-ordination, flexibility and posture.
Pilates is based on a set of principles which exercise the whole body through a range of mat and equipment based exercises. Pilates combines the co-ordination of deep postural and stability muscles, breathing and arm & leg movements with postural correction, suppleness and flexibility. With regular practice, Pilates positively changes the body.
All our Pilates classes are designed and taught by experienced Physiotherapists.
We cover many differing areas with in each class. There is a mixture of classes available to suit all ages and abilities.

Healthy HIT Pilates (High Intensity Interval Training)
Join the next revolution in Pilates with HealthyHIT®. The most challenging Pilates workouts created by APPI (www.ausphysio.com) founder Glenn Withers. HealthyHIT® Pilates is a combination of the High Intensity Training (HIT) principle and Pilates movements in a structured program designed pecifically for weight loss/toning and fitness.
HealthyHIT® Pilates is a series of 6 classes, each lasting just 30mins that works you hard, but teaches you correct technique to ensure you complete the workout in the right way. HIT (High Intensity Training) is a great concept, and the physiology behind it fascinating. However, many people completing HIT programs do so with very poor technique, and work at a level that their bodies may not be capable of.
The APPI’s HealthyHIT® program ensures that those same amazing benefits of the HIT physiology is achieved, but with correct form and function. Incorporating appropriate rest periods and Pilates exercises to balance the program. All the movements are based on existing Pilates movements but taken to an entirely new level.
These classes are taught by Senior APPI presenter Simon Miller.
Pre/Post Natal Pilates
We are able to adapt our normal classes to incorporate both ante/post natal clients. We modify the exercises to adapt to the changes a woman’s body goes through before and after birth. Prenatally it can help maintain the strength of the pelvic floor, abdominals and hips. Post natal Pilates is Fantastic as a way of easing back in to exercise and for helping regain your figure!
One to One Pilates
These Sessions are conducted by an experienced physiotherapist who will be able to direct each class to your specific needs. It will give you a greater understanding of how your body works and will allow you to feel the benefits of Pilates quicker than in a class setting. Having one to one sessions will allow us to be more precise with your training.
